During Lent, Ikon is hosting a study and discussion of the book Suspicion and Faith: The Religious Uses of Modern Atheism By Merold Westphal (Fordham University Press). To participate, you need to obtain a copy of the book and you should read the required chapters before coming to the group discussion.

Course Outline

  • The hermeneutics of suspicion
  • Freud and the psychoanalysis of the believing soul
  • Marx and the critique of religion as ideology
  • Nietzsche and the critique of religion as resentment

Dates: Postponed until after Easter 2008 (yes, I know that means that it isn't "for Lent" any more ...)

Cost: There is no cost for the course, but you will need to obtain a copy of the book Suspicion and Faith.
